Peter McKinlay, Project Associate

Peter McKinlay is the Director of the Local Government Centre at AUT University, Auckland and an associate of the Centre for Local Government at the University of Technology, Sydney. He is an active participant within the Research Advisory Group of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum and a past convener of the Auckland network of the Institute of Public Administration New Zealand.

McKinlay has nearly three decades of experience as a consultant and researcher in local government, governance and organisational design, both in New Zealand and internationally.

McKinlay’s current research and advisory interests include how the nature of the governance at the local level is changing, with the emergence of parallel institutions of local governance such as major trusts and foundations whose grant making and distribution policies can be major factors in shaping communities.
